Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) comes in several forms, with each form produced for a selected use. The most widely used types are fully hydrolyzed, moderate, and specialty grades. Because of its exceptional film-forming capacity, finally hydrolyzed PVA might be employed in situations where high water resistance is required, such as the case of packaging. Partially hydrolyzed isoform of PVA has higher solubility in water and hence is most useful for use in adhesives and coating substances. Specialty grades of polymers address specialized market segments and provide certain functions like high heat resistance or ‘recyclable’ functions making sure that there is no customer need that goes unanswered.
