Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) and Polyvinyl Acetate (PVOH) are two of the most common multipurpose polymers. While both belong to the same category, their chemical composition sets them apart. PVA is soluble in water, and has strong film-forming properties which makes it useful in the textile and packaging industries. On the other hand, PVOH is also soluble in water but has varying properties in terms of adhesion. PVOH is widely used in adhesives and coatings. Therefore, it is very important to understand these properties especially when deciding which material to use for a given application in order to maximize improvement and effectiveness.
