VAE emulsion offers distinct advantages over general water-based adhesives. Unlike simple PVA-based adhesives, VAE emulsions bond to non-porous substrates like PVC and metal without primers, thanks to their ethylene segments. They exhibit superior flexibility, with elongation at break exceeding 300%, making them ideal for materials subject to movement. VAE emulsions also have lower minimum film-forming temperatures (MFFT), forming continuous films at 5-10°C, whereas some water-based adhesives require higher temperatures. In outdoor applications, VAE emulsions resist UV degradation and water absorption better than standard water-based adhesives, maintaining bond strength after prolonged exposure. However, water-based PVA adhesives excel in water solubility and cost-effectiveness for temporary bonding applications.
